Belts have been the hot accessory for Brides for a couple of seasons now. And with so many more options out there it's so easy to find the perfect one to accent your gown. Belts are great because they add a personal touch to your dream wedding dress. When you add a belt you are almost guaranteeing that none of your friends will have your exact look. And we know how important that is!

They also take a dress that may not have a defined waist and completely change the shape of that dress and your body. When your waist is accented by a belt you can see more of an hour glass shape and in turn your waist looks smaller in proportion than the rest of you. Which every woman can attest to loving!

What's Hot In Bridal For 2012

We just got back from Fall Bridal Market in Chicago and are totally inspired by what we saw. The fashion shows were gorgeous and we got a peak into what you will be seeing for Spring 2012. So all you Brides that have yet to find the perfect dress take note of what you will soon have to pick from!

The corset bodice is making a huge comeback and it's coming back with more attitude than ever. Sparkles and jewels adorn these tops and if you're really feeling brave the modesty panel can be removed to reveal a top that is sheer!

Volumes and volumes of fabrics adorned the skirts on the runway and we loved seeing the beautiful movement as the models strutted down the runway. This was a trend that we saw in 2011 but it is going to be extremely strong for 2012.

Belts and hotter than ever and the options seem to be endless. We purchased belts that were black, green, ivory with huge flowers, and rhinestones that will personalize the dress that you fall in love with. Besides being a great trend, belts cinch in the waist and show off your hour glass figure!

Fit N Flares and going to be going strong again into 2012 but their done differently than before. Textures are being added to make them more current and modern. And we saw beautiful Fit N Flares with soft laces and gorgeous bead work. My thought as I saw these come down the runway was- you couldn't be more feminine and Hollywood glam in a dress like that!

We saw some color being added to Bridal gowns. Black was hot but even more so a soft pink. If your not brave enough for an all color dress you can opt to have some accents in colors such as a belt or jewelry.

We had a blast at Fall Bridal Market in Chicago and can't wait until the shipments come in and you can see them for yourself. You will not be disappointed!!

Amelishan Wedding - Amber & Nick

If you love a unique wedding you'll love pouring over the photos of Amelishan's Real Wedding for Amber and Nick. In fact, Amber is the AM of Amelishan! So what kind of wedding do you plan when you are a designer yourself and have known the wedding industry since you were a child?
A wedding unique to your taste and ideas, and shows just who you are as an individual.

The Bridesmaids dresses all got to choose an Ivory dress of their choice. Yes, that's me to the left of Amber! She's my cousin and best friend! I chose a dress by Bill Levkoff as well as 2 of the other bridesmaids. Amber's dress is an Allure, that she got at Amelishan of course, and she put her own spin on it with the leather belt and customizing the shoulder accent.

The ceremony was in a rose garden in Kansas City. The day was beautiful and the sun came out just at the right time since it had been storming all morning. The reception was held at this great little restaurant that already had a great decor and personality.
Amber and I collected porcelain animals that she painted white to put on all of the tables. And made a great head table decoration of branches and origami birds.
Dinner was petite hamburgers with homemade french fries. Everyone devoured them!

The details were amazing. From the earrings she designed for the Bridesmaids to the songs that her Dad sang to her at the ceremony and dance. Everyone had a blast and didn't want the night to end. And that's what every Bride hopes for!

This was the only bridal shop that I had tried wedding dresses on at. It was my first dress and I loved it! I had tried my dress on in July and we found out in December I was pregnant. They helped me figure out what size I would need and helped talked me through my thoughts of if I should order a different dress or just keep the one I fell in love with! I ended up staying with the dress. I still love it to this day! They helped me pick out jewelery and a veil and headband! They always remembered who I was when I came back in the store! They helped with the selection of my bridesmaid dresses as well! I found beautiful dresses that could be worn again and weren't that expensive! I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Amelishan is about a 1/2 hr away, one-way from my house. They coordinated all of my wedding party's attire. We bought my dress & veil, my bridesmaids dresses, and my flowergirl's dress. We rented tuxes for my groom, his groomsmen, and our fathers. Everyone involved appreciated the professionalism in this locally owned store. Each member of the staff takes great pride in being a part of a couple's special day and proves it through their interaction with their customers. I definitely reccommend being a rewards member with the store for some bonus savings! Their alterations staff is amazing as well. I will be recommending Amelishan to any brides-to-be I know-- they certainly put chain stores like David's Bridal to shame...

We did all of our wedding attire through Amelishan Bridal. The tuxes, bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dress and bridal dress. Plus all the alterations for myself and my bridesmaid dresses were all done at Perfect Fittings (affiliated w/Amelishan Bridal). I had an awesome consultant that I worked with at Amelishan (Amanda) and she really made my experience amazing and fun and stress-free! Whatever my girls or I wanted.. she made it happen. As far as the alterations, although they did a good job with my hem and bussel alterations, I still feel that I paid way to much. Close to $300! I would think that considering the amount of money my whole wedding party spent at Amelishan, that they could give me some sort of discount but... that was not the case. All in all... it's a very nice, elegant, classy place to consider for your wedding attire!

Overall I was very happy with Amelishan, especially their service. I never felt as though the staff was pressuring me to make a decision. They a large selection of wedding dresses and a large selection of mother of the bride dresses in all sizes, which made my mother very happy. I LOVE my wedding dress and received many compliments on it. I'd recommend Amelishan to any future brides in the area. It's worth the drive to Hubertus.

Chicago Bridal Market-New Trends To Fall In Love With!

We just got back from our buying trip in Chicago and cannot wait until our new styles arrive and we can show you what are the newest trend in weddings right now! Attending the high end fashion show in Chicago always makes us drool with envy as we see amazing fabrics and over the top trends. And this is a trend report of what you'll be seeing in weddings and at Amelishan bridal this summer and fall!

Volume- Wedding dresses are as full and voluminous as ever and the look is all about romance! Skirts and fabrics that pull in the waist and make us think of the Victorian days when woman were ultra feminine! The newest fabrics are light so the overall dress isn't too heavy to wear all day and the bead work is as detailed as ever.

Belts-We are seeing belts and accents on bridal and bridesmaids but expect them to be stronger and trendier then ever going into the late 2011 and early 2012 season! There are more choices than ever to take a bridal gown and add your own touch to truly make it one of a kind. Think colored belts (black), beaded, and belts with amazing silk flower accents. Belts also accent waists and make them look tinier, and who doesn't love that?!

Layers- Skirts coming into this season are going to look amazing walking down the aisle and on the dance floor as designers play with different fabrics and layering them. We saw layers of lace, organza, and tulle. Truly the look of elegance and girlishness! You'll also see designers play with feathers, bead work, and flowers within the layers to create even more volume.

Detail- We saw amazing detail, especially at Allure Bridals and Mori Lee. Lace dresses have floral accents (see below) that are both romantic and fashion forward. They take a traditional gown and take it to the next level of fashion! Bead work is a bit more vintage inspired and relates to what we are currently seeing in ready wear this season.

Maids are better than ever! We saw cocktail inspired silk t-length gowns and great colors that no bridesmaid can complain about. In fact I purchased a 'bridesmaid" dress in black to wear to all the weddings I have this summer. They are truly gorgeous! Rosettes are huge for maids too, as well as unique necklines and great draping.

2 Tips To Look Amazing On Your Wedding Day

I love when women share beauty tips and secrets. Sure we can read about great products in magazines, but how much of that is to get a sale. So when a friend raves about a certain product that is dong wonders for her I practically run to the store to buy it!

That's why I am so excited to rave about 2 new things that I discovered that are also perfect for a Bride who wants to A:glow on her wedding day and B:de-stress during all of her crazy wedding planning.

I just picked up the Clinique Turnaround peel to try something different from my regular exfoliation method. And the day after my first use I used I got so many compliments at work on my glowing complexion. You're supposed to use it 3 times a week and let it sit like a mask and then exfoliate away. I put it on in the shower and let it sit while I shampoo and when I get out of the shower I have the glow that only comes from working out for an hour. And you've gotta love that!

To most women, myself included, massages are a luxury. So when my Husband gave me a gift certificate for one this Christmas I was so excited. The certificate was for Healing Elements and Day Spa in West Bend. I spent a while on their website trying to decide what to spend it on (like a kid in a candy store) and decided to try something I have never tried before and get the Water Massage.
It was TRULY HEAVEN! The entire time the masseuse is massaging you, there are jets of water that run over the part of the body not being worked on. I love the sound of water and I was able to transport myself to St.Lucia and imagine I was under a waterfall. And Gina was amazing at getting all the stress kinks in my neck out! Another plus was that the warm environment and water helps you loosen up so the masseuse can work on your muscles easier.

If a water massage is not your thing (you do come out of the massage completely soaked) they have many other options available to help you relax and you get a hand paraffin at the end as well!
I am going to make these massages a monthly indulgence because I am trying to focus on the well being of myself and my body. And I think this would be a wonderful way for a stressed out Bride To Be as well.

Liz's Wedding- As Beautiful As We Had All Imagined!

Liz, our lovely Tuxedo Manager got married this past Sunday, and the day couldn't have been more perfect! The wedding was held outside at the Golden Mast with the weather being the kind of weather you dream about for an October wedding. The ceremony was beautiful and once in awhile a gust of wind brought the colorful fall leaves scattering down on the wedding party and guests.

Liz wore an Allure Couture gown, which she kept a secret from us so we would be surprised. And we all were. As soon as I was her walk down the aisle my eyes filled up with tears because she was so radiant. Her makeup was natural with a bit of glam and in her hair she wore a flower on the side and a pouf veil which perfectly accented her hair do.

Her Bridesmaids wore different T-Length gowns by Alfred Angelo in Marine Blue which looked amazing with her accent color of yellow. Her flowers were done by Jo-Mar Floral in Waukesha and to top off all the fun colors the girls all wore yellow shoes. (How fun) The men rented the tuxes 982 Parisian and they all looked so handsome.

I loved some of the personal touches Liz added to her wedding. When we all entered the ceremony the woman were handed a rose from the ushers. And what woman doesn't enjoy receiving a flower? The table centerpieces were tulips and to go along with the theme, each guest was given tulip bulbs to take home. And on each table was an envelope labeled with an anniversary, for example, on our table we had 11 years. Inside the envelope were blank index cards to be filled out with advice for that year of marriage by each person at the table.

The night ended of course by everyone having a blast on the dance floor. And Liz and Andrew were literally glowing all night. You could tell they were so in love and having a blast on their wedding day. And all of the Amelishan crew had a blast too, the day couldn't have been more fun!

Chicago Bridal Market - We Are Inspired!

We love shopping at all of the bridal markets. We always come home completely inspired and ready to move into the next year bringing you style and everything wonderful! It's quite a job when we go, not only are we shopping for 4 full days. We have to widdle down our purchases to bring our customers the best of the best. All the shopaholics out there don't know a thing about shopping until they go to a clothing market! :)

That said we love it! When I step off the elevators at the Chicago Bridal Mart and smell all the new products my stomach starts bubbling with excitement! And we cannot wait to bring you the hottest styles for 2011! Everything is simplified and feminine. Bridal gowns are all about the lines of the body and how they shape to a woman's curves. And clothes right now are all about accenting our curves, no matter if they're big or small! If bridal gowns do have some sparkle it is subtle like in a sash or belt and on the bodice. And it's all about personalization, like adding a unique sash or antique brooch to make it a one of a kind creation!

Inspire Your Wedding Fashion - 1940's Powder Room

You can pull inspiration from anywhere, and I mean anywhere, and I would love to see a wedding that was inspired by an old powder room. They were so feminine and dainty. I can imagine a pink and black one, where perfume was dotted on a woman's wrist so delicately, and men kept quiet while a woman took hours to primp. Got the visual?

Lets get inspired!

Sometimes starting the look off with your bridesmaids is inspiring in itself because there are so many options. Choose something feminine with a modern flair such as a sash or belt. But keep the fabrics soft and flowing, kind of like you would imagine the skirt of the makeup vanity being. A high waistline is very 1940's and quite flattering as well.

The bridal gown should embody femininity. Soft fabrics, gorgeous lace, and a body that follows the curves of an hour glass figure. The wonderful thing about lace is that while it is a very traditional fabric, it can have a modern twist to it with three dimensional flowers.
And remember the saying "Why don't I slip into something a bit more comfortable" You can actually take the lace layer off to reveal a sexy char muse slip dress. (pictured below) Perfect for a reception dress!

Include moms in on the picture too! They should have that 1940's look but with a bit of attitude. And talk about not dressing matronly, (which is what we hear from every mom that walks in our door) this dress is anything but! Walk around in this little number with a cocktail and you have the complete look of a 1940's powder room setting!

As for the setting, you can really pick up the look and feel of a vintage powder room here. Adorn the tables in soft cloths of pink, surround the tables with white chairs that have a black ribbon around them. Centerpieces can be really creative, such as vintage perfume bottles or antique picture frames with photos of the couple growing up. And be sure to get the feel going by having Sinatra playing in the background during cocktails and dinner.

We were just graciously invited to the Mori Lee Bridal New York design room to view the bridal gowns that are in the running for the Spring 2011 Bridal Collection. We were asked to mark the dresses as they came down the runway as our favorites or not and weather we thought any changes should be made as to be more sale able to our customer.

The dresses were beautiful and the designer Madeline Gardner described the look she was going for as Romantic. We saw many flower accents as well as soft beautiful fabrics that draped the body. We are definitely going to be looking at a more delicate and feminine Bride in 2011 who is going to want an easy,comfortable, yet unbelievably gorgeous gown! Madeline knows how to dress a woman in any size or shape and you are never going to make a mistake by purchasing a Mori Lee Bridal Gown!

The over all trip was amazing, New York has wonderful restaurants and great stores (Bloomingdales)! We ended the trip at Arthur's summer home where we dipped our feet in the ocean, had amazing food, and watched the sun set to a live singer. What a blast!

We are always on the lookout for new wedding companies and are so excited about these two! The first is actually a new part of Atelier Photography, which has been in business for many years. But she recently jumped on the new trend of having a photo booth at receptions. We had the photo booth at our 15th Anniversary Party at Amelishan, and had an absolute blast. She has a bin of props that you can goof around with and best of all she had the photo booth designed specifically to hold more than 4 people! So the whole gang can fit in!

Then when you are finished, the Bride and Groom get a copy of the photo strip in a special book where you can write a message to them next to your photo strip, and you get a copy as well. Trend Forecast For Bridal Fall 2010

We just returned from Chicago for Bridal Market Fall 2010 and we are extremely excited and impressed with what the new styles are. The trends for the Bride are new, easy, and fresh. And we can't wait for them to come in so we can give our "Amelishan Bride's" the newest and most beautiful trends for their weddings!

The main Fashion Show of the evening opened up with the most amazing ballet dancers. They left you wishing you were that flexible and graceful! We had front row seats so we were able to see the details and colors perfectly!

Ruffles and romance strutted down the runway. We saw beautiful light weight ruffles that showed off the feminine side of today's designers and will showcase a Brides hourglass shape perfectly. The fabrics were organza and silk, so we are moving into the direction of the modern Bride being comfortable and at ease on her wedding day!

Color is being carried into the Fall season but in jewel tones such as burgundy and gold. The color accents are only touches of color as to not take away from the beauty of the fabrics and lace. Belts are going to be HOT going into the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 Bridal seasons. You're going to be able to purchase them separately and attach them to your wedding dress in a way that will be designing and styling a look just for you!

Necklaces were layered and strung down the back of the models. Think Victorian style meets the modern day woman. Hair styles are going to be easier and more laid back with the perfect rhinestone head band or brooch accenting the look and style of the wedding dress.

Keyhole backs and one shoulders are going to be a key style for 2010/2011 Brides. The focus is on the back, neck, and color bone. Having toned armed is going to really important in pulling off this new trend. (But totally worth the work!)

Golden Globes Review

I love watching award shows because you can get a glimpse into the world of fashion and what we will see in ready wear and weddings the following season. This years Golden Globes was definitely paired down a bit as far as the glitz goes, but they definitely didn't lack in the glamour category! I loved the 30's and 40" influence on the dresses. And feel that we are going to see quite a few of the new trends in the Bridal Industry.

Two of the dresses that I would love to see replicated for Bridal are Kate Hudson's and Penelope Cruz's dresses. I would love to see sleeves come back in such a fashionable way and I love the design work and the crumb catcher bodice on Kate's dress.

We didn't see a lot of color on the red carpet but those that did wear color stood out and looked very refreshing! I loved Ginnifer Goodwin's dress color and design. This color is so hot right now for bridal party's! I would love to get a hold of this dress to wear it to my next wedding or event. And talk about being flattering on many body types, just about anyone can wear this style!

I think there was such a debate over Drew Barrymore's dress. Like I said on The Morning Blend, she took a risk, unlike a lot of celebrity's that night. I love that the dress speaks out and is a piece of art work. She glowed that night and everything down to her hair and makeup looked perfect!

One thing that I noticed about the celebrities and the red carpet is that all of them had glammed up hair. I love the look that hair stylist are going for now, they are channeling old Hollywood Glamour! And this definitely will be a trend in weddings to come!

15th Anniversary Party

Because we are celebrating our 15th year in business (starting in Dec and running the entire year of 2010) we decided to start the celebration off right with a party. We held the party right in our store on Sunday Dec 6th, and we all had a blast. It was so wonderful to be supported by our business associates, friends, and family. At certain parts during the party I just looked around and felt so thankful for all of the people in our lives that love and support us!

We had an amazing cheesecake from Simma's, which if you've never had Simma's cheesecake you are missing out. Because we wanted all of our guests to be entertained we had a company come in with a roulette wheel and poker tables to teach everybody how to play. ( And of course we gambled fake money not real!) Plus we had Elizabeth from Atelier Photography bring in her photo booth equipment so everyone could have a remembrance of the event. Which was hilarious because she had a box of props for the photos and everyone went a little nuts!

Thank you to all that came to celebrate with us, especially those who drove a distance to be here. We are so thankful to everybody in our lives, because without our staff, family, friends, and business partners we would not be here today celebrating our 15th year in this business. We truly love what we do and everybody in our lives makes it very possible to be the successful business we are today!

Portia Young From WISN Is An Amelishan Bride!

We just got back from a seminar in Las Vegas put on by Mon Cheri Bridal, and we had a blast. We got to take a tour of Vegas as well as sit in on sales seminars, meet the editors from Brides Magazine and The Knot, and get a little taste of what's to come for the bridal industry as a whole. And we are pumped from all that we learned and heard!
We feel that it is so important to stay updated in the bridal industry and to make sure that we offer our customers the very best in customer service, fashions, and information for planning their weddings. So 4 of us took the hike to Las Vegas for a grooling 3 day seminar that covers everything imaginable to stay on top of things in the bridal and fashion industry!
What we took home was not only valuable for our business but will be even more valuable for our customers as we will always stay updated with information and trends.
And of course we mixed work with a little bit of play and had a chance to see what Las Vegas was all about.

Mon Cheri Bridal Seminar Held At Our Store!

We were both honored and very grateful that Steve Lang ( the President of Mon Cheri Bridals) and his team flew out to hold a seminar in our store this past Sunday and Monday. We scrambled to get everything perfect because not only were they coming to our store, but also because so were 80 other bridal store owners and staff! It was a bit stressful getting everything ready, only because we wanted it to be perfect for everyone. But it all played out flawlessly.

Kim's Bridal Shower!

All of us here at Amelishan Bridal were so excited for Kim's Bridal Shower. She's getting married on Oct 3rd so we knew we had to have it soon. We decided we wanted it to be a surprise so we made up some excuse to all meet at The Mineshaft in Hartford for dinner. Which isn't too unusual for us so she had no idea it was going to be her shower.

We all got there early to set up and get ready and waited patiently for the Bride to Be to arrive. When she was about 6 minutes late I figured I'd give her a call, because after all what would we do if the bride forgot to come and never shows up?! So I gave her a call, and guess what, she forgot! She told us just to go ahead without her and she'd be there in an hour! I have never heard of the bride not showing up for her shower! So, we had to blow the surprise and tell her to get her butt over there because this was her surprise shower. LOL She felt so bad!

But we all had a blast, even while we were waiting for her to arrive. Below are some pictures of her with her presents and some of the whole group.

Pick Out A New Scent For Your Wedding Day

One of the wedding tips I love to give is to pick out a new perfume for your special day. It's wonderful because it's fresh and new for you and because scent is one of the biggest inhibitors of memory, if you wear it on special days or anniversaries your husband will smell you and wonder why he's feeling giddy and so in love again.

Start looking at least 2 months before so you can experiment with the scents and make sure that they react well with your chemistry and that none of them give you a headache or make you feel nauseous. The best way to do this on the cheap is to collect samples from department stores or Sephora. Just tell the makeup consultant what you're up to and they will be more than happy to dig up samples for you from the back or make the samples for you. Just remember to try different scents, from Sexy Siren Bride to Romantic Bride to determine what feel your going for on your wedding day.

When you've found the perfect scent don't forget to spray it on before you put on your wedding dress as some fabrics like silk and taffeta are easily stained by perfume. And save that sample to take with you on your Honeymoon, it'll be easier to pack than the regular size and less breakable. Try to save some until at least your first anniversary, because trust me, as soon as your Husband gets a whiff of you and the memories of your wedding day start rushing in, you won't be able to stop him from sniffing your neck!

Megan has been with us for 2 years and has played such an important role in our family here. And she is so happy to be starting her own little family! As well as to all of the Bridesmaids, Mother's, and everyone else that found the perfect dress at the perfect price for their special occasion. I can't tell you how happy we were by the response we got this year at our Tent Sale. Everyone was so excited with their deals that they were squealing with delight at the cash register. I love that! It is very possible to have a dream wedding on a dream budget! We have decided to keep our clearance room open through the middle of August to accommodate all of the bargain shoppers out there right now. But shop early, things are literally flying out the door!

Seal The Deal For An Engagement!

While I am not really all for superstitions I was very curious when I came upon a recipe for a chicken dinner called "Engagement Chicken" in my 2004 subscription of Glamour. It caught my eye as I read about a Glamour editor who made the dinner for her then boyfriend, and a few weeks later he popped the question! She then (thinking it was pretty catchy) dubbed this recipe Engagement Chicken. Supposedly it is a recipe that a man imagines his future wife making and he might look at you in a new light after that. As she passed the recipe along to all her hopefull friends, rings started popping up on fingers everywhere.

My eyes widened as I read, I had been dating my now husband for 7 years at that point. (We were high school sweethearts!) I really wanted to get married, I was ready, and we had talked the subject to death. It just never seemed to happen. So, I decided to try the recipe. Why not? What would it hurt?

I made the recipe exactly as it read, potatoes and asparagus included. (Why take risks?) We sat down at my little kitchen table in my apartment and he began to eat. I watched him with curious eyes. He loved it. He'd never tasted anything so good before! I laughed to myself, knowing the little secret that he would never find out!

5 weeks later he proposed! I laughed, was it a coincidence? I eventually told him about the famous recipe for getting women engaged and he laughed and told me I was crazy! He had already decided on a ring at that point. Oh well, better to seal the deal right?

The recipe was brought up again when my Mom was telling one of our customers about the Chicken. She had been waiting years for a proposal, and she told her the funny story. Well, she definately wanted that recipe so I found it online and printed it off wishing her luck. She came back about 2 months later ring on hand ready to shop for her Bridal Gown. I laughed. It was such a foolish thing and yet it proved its magic.

I decided that more women should know about this magical recipe. But use it with caution, it truly works!

Married? Every now and then when I really want something done around the house I dig up this recipe and pop it in the oven. Works every time!!

Engagement Chicken
1 whole chicken (approx. 3 lb.)
2 medium lemons
Fresh lemon juice (1/2 cup)
Kosher or sea salt
Ground black pepper
Place rack in upper third of oven and preheat to 400 degrees. Wash chicken inside and out with cold water, remove the giblets, then let the chicken drain, cavity down, in a colander until it reaches room temp (about 15 minutes). Pat dry with paper towels. Pour lemon juice all over the chicken (inside and outside). Season with salt and pepper. Prick the whole lemons three times with a fork and place deep inside the cavity. (Tip: If lemons are hard, roll on countertop with your palm to get juices flowing.) Place the bird breast-side down on a rack in a roasting pan, lower heat to 350 degrees and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn it breast-side up (use wooden spoons!); return it to oven for 35 minutes more. Test for doneness—a meat thermometer inserted in the thigh should read 180 degrees, or juices should run clear when chicken is pricked with a fork. Continue baking if necessary. Let chicken cool for a few minutes before carving. Serve with juices.

The Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Outfit

There has always been much debate on what to where to your rehearsal dinner and how formal you want to get. But the decision is totally up to you! I have always believed that weddings are such a special occasion and the Bride is going to be in every photo imaginable, so why not look your very best? I love that their are so many options out there and now you don't have to look much farther than the Bridal Salon that you purchased you bridal gown at.

We know it's been talked about for years, and we all thought people were just fibbing. But now the way they are designing bridesmaids dresses they can be used for absolutely any special occasion and no one will even know the difference. I have heard over and over again brides say " Oh I love this dress, but it just won't work for all of my bridesmaids" or for whatever reason. I say, if you love it, buy it for yourself and wear to your rehearsal dinner. I am all about women showing their feminine side and I want to see Brides shine for all of their wedding events. And the rehearsal dinner is no exception.

The key to making sure that no one even makes a comment that you are wearing a "bridesmaid dress" (SHHHH) is making sure your accessories tell the right story. Choose an open toe nude heel, for one they make you look taller and leaner, and they will keep your look from becoming too made up. (Beauty should look effortless, no matter how long it took you to look like that!)

Keep your jewelry from looking too formal, skip the rhinestones for this look and turn to a mixture of beautiful colored stones and pearls. Hair should also look effortless, if you wear it down sweep some back to frame your face and make sure it has a natural body to it. If you like your hair up, sweep it back and tie a loose bun or twist in it. Make sure you leave some strands out or you risk looking like a stern librarian!

Now's the time to wear the color that you loved but your bridesmaids refused to wear! Or if you want a more elegant look order the dress in black or a gorgeous champagne. If you are traveling for a destination wedding purchase a dress in a jersey fabric. It's wrinkle free so you can literaly take it out of your packed suitcase and throw it on for the rehearsal.

Done right you will stand out amongst everyone at the rehearsal, and you should, your the Bride. Your look should be effortless, so don't think into styling too much. And remember it's a good investment because you can wear the same dress to your friends wedding 2 months later!!

Where to Donate your Bridal Gown or Prom Dress

Since we are full swing in the middle of Wedding and Prom season I am getting a lot of phone calls about where to sell or donate bridal and prom dresses. (We are all watching our pocket books a little closer now a days!)
As far as selling there's always ebay, although with an overflow of discount bridal stores also selling on ebay, prices are going way down. If you have a couture bridal gown, weather it be new or gently used you can take a trip to Chicago's bridal consignment store White Chicago. Here you can drop off your bridal gown to be sold by trained bridal consultants. It stays there for 3 months and I believe you get 40% if it sells.

Donation to me is the best way to make an impact and be able to make some money come tax time. All donations are tax deductible and if you end up shipping the dress, shipping is also tax deductable. Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation is a wonderful place to donate your new or used bridal gown. They will take all donations and go around touring in different states to sell the gowns to hopeful brides. We have made donations to Making Memories for 3 years and it is an easy process and since everyone is touched in some way by the disease, also a fulfilling donation.

There are many other ways to donate your bridal gown and make it count towards a good cause. The Bridal Garden in New York takes donations of new and used bridal gowns with the profits benefitiing the children of New York. Again a great tax deduction for you and a great way to give to others at the same time.

If you have a prom dress to donate I recommend the Sista Pride's Princess for Prom. It runs right out of Milwuakee by The Boys and Girls Club and is for a wonderful cause!

And I know you all want to hang on to those wonderful Bridesmaid dresses from the 80's and 90's but let go and make room in your closet for other things. If you think that no one would want or use a tacky dress, think again! Many Highschool Musical and Theatre departments are happy for these kinds of donations. They work perfectly for plays or musicals set in different eras, or they alter and change them to look completely different. Call your area schools to find out if they are in need, this is also tax deductable if they have a form for you to fill out.

We get calls all the time about where to sell gowns or what to do with bridal gowns when a wedding is canceled and the dress is new and unaltered. In that case it's a wonderful opportunity to take an unfortunate situation and make it into one that benefits many.

Harley Davidson Wedding Show

We just had the wedding show at the Harley Davidson Museum put on by the Wedding Planner and Guide and it was a blast. First of all I have never been to the Harley Museum, and although I have never been into motorcylces, I was thoroughly impressed! Whoever designed the venue and museum did a great job. They mixed industrial, with modern, and added a touch of chic to come up with an amazing location for parties and weddings, as well as for everyone that is crazy about Harley's.

The wedding show itself was a huge success and it was great to see everyone play up the Harley colors and theme and mix it with the elegance of bridal fashions. We decided to add a little playfulness to our booth for this show with the use of the Harley black and orange and then adding the top color of the season PINK!

I think everyone that came to the show was relaxed because of the atmosphere that was made from the venue. And everyone stayed a bit longer than normal to chat up what fashions are hottest right now.

I was so excited to see what the Fashion Show would look like. We had our veil designer make some amazing new one of a kind veils and headpieces specifically for this show and I couldn't wait to see how the model worked those and our dresses on the runway. (Last minute change, the day before the show our model was changed! So it was a bit stressful to refit her the day of, but I loved how she worked the runway! She was amazing and so nice.)

The fashions shown for the night were a mix of couture and traditional bridal. We wanted to introduce the new look for 2010 in a way that knocked peoples socks off, and show off the new cage veils that are so hot right now. Of course we had to celebrate the Harley traditions as well, so we introduced the newest fashions with touches of Black, Orange, and off course a bit of Pink!

The Fashion show went off without a hitch, (that's without talking about the behind the scenes craziness!) The music and beat was perfect for the theme and attitude of the show, and the models strutted their stuff like there was no tomorrow! We saw color, ruffles, flirty bridesmaids, and simplistic bridals. I felt like I was in New York watching the fashion shows during Fashion Week.

The bridal industry is blowing up for 2010 with amazing colors, couture fit gowns, and elegant but laid back wedding themes. We love that people are focusing on the happiness of the day and not getting caught up in making it all "perfect". Brides want a dress that fits their personality and it doesn't matter if it's the newest trend or not. Bridesmaids are wearing their dresses again, (Yes, you better believe it!) and the men are looking less made up and more handsome than ever.

The Harley Bridal Show gave us a glimpse into the trends and fashions of 2010, not only for gowns, but in table trends, journalistic photography, and the newest way that brides are stepping back and letting things happen. The Industry is abuzz with excitement of the upcoming season, and we can't wait to see it all come together!

Amelishan reviews The Morning Blend Wedding

The wedding was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for things to go any smoother than they did. Melissa glowed all night and Vache was such a handsome groom. We had a blast sponsoring the bride and her bridesmaids and I am sad to see it all come to an end. We want to wish Melissa and Vache the best of happiness and many years of love. We also would like to thank Channel 4 and The Morning Blend for having us be a part of this unique and wonderful experience!

The Morning Blend Wedding Was Friday!

Melissa and Vache are finally married!! Last night, Friday May 15th, Melissa and Vache (the winners of The Morning Blend Throws a Wedding) got married at the Titanic Exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Everything was beautiful!

The day started at 3:00 getting all of the girls ready, Jennifer, Krista, Stephanie, Silva, and Sosi. They were a blast! All of them were so nice and easy to work with. A brides dream! The dresses looked so beautiful on the bridesmaids, and the color was amazing with the flowers. The mothers looked wonderful in their dresses which were very flattering on them both. Recommendations for brides and bridesmaids: Hollywood double sided tape is amazing for "just in case" situations. (Keep it in your clutch for touch ups.)

After Melissa and her bridesmaids finished getting ready we headed up to the Rainforest section of the Museum to get started on photos. How fun! Melissa is going to have amazing wedding photos due to all of the wonderful backdrops in the museum. We then went into the dinosaur exhibit to take photos in front of the T-Rex eating the other dinosaur exhibit. The photos turned out great and everyone looked amazing in them.

We went back to the fitting room to see how Jennifer's daughter Hailey, the flower girl, was doing getting dressed and made up. She was adorable and was so good throughout the night. Alison and Molly Faye stopped in to see how everyone was doing and we had a quick chance to take some photos with them. The girl's made all of the needed last minute adjustments and then we were off to the titanic exhibit for the ceremony.

I wasn't able to take any photos during the ceremony, but it was beautiful and so touching. The ceremony was held right in the Titanic exhibit and the quests chairs were seated amongst the cases of artifacts from the wreck of the Titanic. Immediately following the ceremony Melissa and Vache were interviewed by Alison and Molly Faye from The Morning Blend. They then interviewed Grandma Rose, she was the sweetest thing ever. It was her father that was a Third Class survivor on the Titanic! Amazing and romantic story of survival and searching for loved ones!

The guests were then invited to finish the tour of the Titanic exhibit and at the end we all gathered for a traditional Sipper toast to congratulate the newly married couple. While the guests toured the museum and had hors devours and drinks. We finished up the photos and took some of the family in the Streets of Old Milwaukee. The cake cutting proceeded that and then the prayer.

Jennifer and I then proceeded to bustle Melissa's dress. The alterations and bustle were done by Perfect Fittings and looked beautiful. Melissa was a good sport with standing and being patient with me because at that point her feet hurt really bad and she was ready to sit down and eat. I also discovered I have to start lifting heavier weights because my arms got tired from bustling the dress. Great!

The food was great. I sat at the table with the Hosts, Producers, and camera crew from channel 4's The Morning Blend and they were so pleasant to talk to. I love doing work with them because they are all down to earth "real people". A lot of people were coming by our table to get their pictures taken with Molly Faye and Alison. And they were great sports about it. Melissa and Vache were making their rounds to say hi to everyone. They were so thankful for all that Amelishan and all of the other vendors gave them. I have never worked with such a grateful and worthy couple and I am truly so happy for them!

After dinner they cleared the tables for the dance floor. The first dance of the night was the traditional Armenian Bride and Groom dance. It was so fun to watch and everyone there knew how to do it! I have never seen this tradition and it was so amazing to be a part of. The rest of the night everyone had a blast dancing.

Melissa and Vache glowed the entire day! You could tell how in love they were, it just radiated from them. I was exhausted by the end of the day, but in a good way! I was so fortunate to be part of this couples day and part of this unique experience. Tune in Monday May 18th when I will be on The Morning Blend talking about the wedding day. The Wedding Planner and Guide is putting on a brand new Bridal Show this summer. The show is being held at the Harley-Davidson Museum and is set for Wednesday May 27th from 4-9. I love the idea of a summer evening show where not only can you see the best of the best for wedding vendors, but you can also check out the Harley Museum, if you haven't but always wanted to! There will be food and a Fashion Show so bring all your bridesmaids and friends.
